Computer-human interaction has been jointly investigated by
Computer Scientists and Psychologists. Research in this field
provides insights into user response time. A recent survey of user
response time models can be found in [17].
Specifically, system-user interaction with menus has been studied
in [20,12], and usage of a stylus
and soft keyboard has been studied in [24].
Research on human reading speed is discussed
in [4]. Another important aspect of system-user
interaction modeling is user interface specification. Many formal
models have been used for this purpose, such as state-transition
diagrams (STD) [27], Petri
nets [19],
goal-operation-methods-selections [3], and user
action notation [10].
